Band Fans Meeting Monday

The next meeting of the Band Fans Parent Organization is next Monday, February 27, at 6:30 pm in the music room. Our new Fundraising VP, Shari Haley, has been busy putting together a variety of exciting fundraising events for us, and we’ll be going over all of those plans. We’ll also have Harkins Theatres gift cards for sale, so bring your checkbook and stock up on cards for spring movies. Band Fans is open to parents of all band students, and we depend on the help of all band parents to support our student musicians. We hope to see you there!

Urgent Need for Lunch Volunteers

We need a parent to help with handing out lunch items this Friday, February 24. This is an easy duty that earns a lot of money for the band program. If you can help for 45 minutes – 11:15 am to noon – on Friday, or if you’re available for future help, email hidden; JavaScript is required.

Horizon Band at PVUSD Arts Festival – Saturday, March 3

Come out to Paradise Valley Mall on March 3 for the Paradise Valley Arts Festival presented by PV Schools and Paradise Valley Mall. Our band will perform at 10 am and our orchestra at 10:40 am, and all day long you can browse visual art displays and enjoy the sights and sounds of more than 100 choir, theatre, dance, strings and band performances.

Oregano’s Fundraiser Night – Tuesday, March 6

Band Council students have scheduled a fundraiser event at Oregano’s at PV Mall for Tuesday, March 6, from 11 am to 10 pm. Bring the whole family for some delicious dining or takeout, present the flyer, and Oregano’s will donate 20% of your purchase to support the band program.

California Trip

We are still short of students for this trip to be a go, and I’m surprised by this. I had the privilege of chaperoning the trip two years ago, and as a parent, I was thrilled with the quality and value of the experiences, both musical and social, that the students experienced. The clinic with the director of music at the university was alone worth the cost of the trip. This year’s trip has even more activities on the program, and the cost of the trip is very reasonable.

Don’t forget that we are in a new tax year, so you can pay up to $400 of this fee with tax credit dollars. You can also use Student Account money if you and your student have participated in the individual fundraisers we offer throughout the year. Whichever way you pay for it, I encourage you to sign your student up for this trip. We are in the last few days of this opportunity.

If your student doesn’t have it, download the info sheet (PDF). In brief:

  • The trip is for band and orchestra students
  • The dates are April 19-22
  • The cost is $430, all-inclusive, for transportation, hotel, meals, clinics, tours, and attractions
  • You can pay up to $400 with tax credit (for a married couple filing jointly)
  • Chaperones are needed, the cost to chaperones is $200 for all of the above

Still Need a Few Photo Releases

Band Fans would like to put together a CD of photos taken by parents from throughout the season. We’d like your permission to include your student’s photos in the CD. If you haven’t yet, please download the release form, sign it, and send it in to Band Fans through Mr. Harrison.
