Home Football Game Friday, Sept. 19th

This Friday’s football game is at home against Paradise Valley H.S.   HPR students need to arrive at the Horizon Band Room no later than 5:30 p.m.  Come out to the game to support the Horizon HPR and the football team!

Join us after the game for some delicious Italian ice or frozen custard at Rita’s Italian Ice at Tatum & Bell Road.  Mention that you are with the Horizon Band, and Rita’s will donate a portion of the proceeds from your purchase to the Band!  Click here for directions.

As a reminder, please do not post videos taken of the band to social media websites (Facebook, YouTube, etc…). Any such videos need to be removed if they have been posted. We realize other bands do this, but they are opening themselves to lawsuits in doing so. Instead, please encourage people to come to our performances and support us in that manner!

HPR Rehearsal Schedule

Evening rehearsals for the Horizon Pride Regiment will continue on Mondays and Thursdays, unless otherwise noted in the Band calendar.  The HPR also has rehearsals on Saturday mornings.  Please check the calendar EARLY and OFTEN for the rehearsal schedule, as it could change.  Students should be on the field with their instrument at the start time, so show up early. Remember that Marching Band is a class, so attendance at all rehearsals and events is mandatory.

Fundraising Event Info

Band Fans is planning on holding several fundraising events this year.  Read on for details…

Mardi Gras Casino Night – January 31, 2015

Our largest event this school year will be the annual Mardi Gras Casino Night, which will be held on January 31st, 2015.  To make this event a success, we need your help!  We are asking all families to sell enough tickets to fill an 8-seat table.  We want to raise as much money as possible this year, so that we can continue to cover costs of the Band program without increasing the fees you have to pay out of pocket.  The student that sells the most tickets to this event will receive a $200 credit toward next year’s Band Camp fees!  Last year’s event was tons of fun, and we auctioned off some great prizes.  This year is shaping up to be even better!  We are offering an early-bird discount for tickets purchased before December 1st.  Click here to download info and purchase tickets to this fun event!

Goodwill Donation Fundraiser – November 22, 2014

Do you have unused items in your home that you would like to get rid of?   We have an upcoming fundraiser that will help you do just that!  We have partnered with Goodwill to donate items to their organization, and Goodwill will give Band Fans 10 cents for every pound we donate.  This fundraiser has been scheduled for Saturday, November 22nd.  Goodwill will come and pick up all of the items that have been collected.  In addition, a local self-storage facility has donated the use of a storage unit for no cost that we can use to store items until Goodwill picks them up on November 22nd.  More info on the donation schedule will be published shortly.  Please keep your unwanted items for a short while longer.   This is a great opportunity to purge your unwanted items and raise money for the band!

Rita’s Ices Fundraiser After The Home Football Games

The Horizon Band Council has set up a fundraiser with Rita’s Ices for each home football game.  If you go to Rita’s after a home game and mention that you are with the Horizon Band, a portion of your purchase will be credited to the Band Council’s fundraising account.  Rita’s is located on the southwest corner of Tatum & Bell - 4727 E. Bell Road, Phoenix 85032.

Volunteer Spotlight

This week’s Volunteer of the Week is Dusty Sanchez.  Dusty is mom to Freshman percussionist Alec.  She is also one of our newest board members, serving as VP of Special Events.  Dusty has volunteered for every event since joining Band Fans, including chaperoning on the bus for away games and helping at the uniform fitting event.  Thank you Dusty for all of your help!

Volunteers Needed!!!

We need parent volunteers to help at the upcoming football games.  Volunteer activities include moving instruments and sound equipment on the field, chaperoning on buses at away games, and setting up the bleachers for the Band.  If you are planning to come to the game to watch your student perform, please consider helping out.  All volunteers will get in to the game for free.  Please email hidden; JavaScript is required, if you can help.

Board Member Updates

There have been some recent changes to the Band Fans Board:

Jeff Nicholson has replaced Doug Smith as the President of Band Fans.  Jeff’s son Mitchell will be a Junior this year.  Mitchell plays tenor saxophone for the HPR and is also in Symphonic Band and Percussion Ensemble.

Dusty Sanchez has replaced Karen Fazlollahi as the Vice President of Special Events.  Dusty’s son Alec will be a Freshman this year.  Alec is a member of the HPR Percussion section and is also in the Percussion Ensemble class.

Please join us in welcoming Jeff and Dusty to the Band Fans Board.  We would also like to thank Doug Smith and Karen Fazlollahi for their service, which is greatly appreciated!

Volunteer Of The Year

IMG_0812Congratulations to Neal Deacon for being selected as the Band Fans Volunteer of the Year for the 2013-2014 school year!  Neal began his volunteering by chaperoning band camp in his percussionist son Matt’s freshman year, and he’s made a repeat appearance at band camp every year since (for a total of four). Now wrapping up his fourth year as a volunteer, Neal has chaperoned football games and competitions, volunteered each year for uniform fitting day, driven the equipment truck, served as an essential member of the HPR backdrops team, donated his home each year for the Band Fans holiday party, and donated equipment and materials to the band.  Neal, thank you so much for your support these past four years.  We will miss you!
