Concert on Tuesday, October 21st in the Horizon Performing Arts Center

The first concert of the fall season is this Tuesday, October 21st.  The Symphonic Band, Percussion Ensemble and Orchestra will be performing.  There is no charge for admission.  Call time for students is 6:30 p.m.  Students must wear their concert attire.

ON SALE NOW – Tickets to a pre-screening of The Hunger Games – Mockingjay Part 1!

We have been approved by Lions Gate to have a fundraiser pre-screening of The Hunger Games – Mockingjay on Wednesday, November 19th, before opening day. You will get to see the movie in a private, exclusive pre-screening before the movie is released to the public!!!  The movie will be shown at 4pm at the Picture Show Theater inside Paradise Valley Mall.  Tickets are $15.  Included in the price are a popcorn, soday and candy.   Tickets for this blockbuster movie will go fast, so don’t delay!  Click here to download the flyer and order your tickets now before they are sold out!

This Week’s Football Game and Senior Night – Thursday, October 23rd at Home

Call time for HPR students is 5:30 p.m.  This is the last home game of the 2014-2015 regular season.  All senior students participating in Football, Pom & Cheer, and Band will be honored at half-time, along with their parents.  If you would like to help out at this week’s game, please email hidden; JavaScript is required, Band Fans VP of Volunteers.

As a reminder, please do not post videos taken of the band to social media websites (Facebook, YouTube, etc…). Any such videos need to be removed if they have been posted. We realize other bands do this, but they are opening themselves to lawsuits in doing so. Instead, please encourage people to come to our performances and support us in that manner!

Pizza Fundraiser this Friday, October 24th

The Horizon Band students have arranged a fundraiser with Gus’s Pizza for this Friday, October 24th.  Mention the Horizon Band when placing your order and Gus’s will donate 20% of proceeds from your purchase to the Band – including delivery!   Flyers and menus are available in Mr. Harrison’s office.

HPR Competition – Goldwater Invitational on Saturday, October 25th

The next HPR competition is the Goldwater Invitational on Saturday, October 25th at Barry Goldwater High School.   Click here for a map and directions.  HPR students and volunteers should arrive at Horizon no later than 11:45 a.m. on Saturday.  Click here to download the event itinerary.  Please come to this important event to support your student!

HPR Rehearsal Schedule

Evening rehearsals for the Horizon Pride Regiment will continue on Mondays and Thursdays, unless otherwise noted in the Band calendar.  The HPR also has rehearsals on Saturday mornings.  Please check the calendar EARLY and OFTEN for the rehearsal schedule, as it could change.  Students should be on the field with their instrument at the start time, so show up early. Remember that Marching Band is a class, so attendance at all rehearsals and events is mandatory.  

Get Rid Of Your Unwanted Items and Raise Money For The Band!

Do you have unused items in your home that you would like to get rid of?   We have an upcoming fundraiser that will help you do just that!  We have partnered with Goodwill to donate items to their organization, and Goodwill will give Band Fans 10 cents for every pound we donate.  This fundraiser has been scheduled for Saturday, November 22nd from 10am to 1pm.  Goodwill will come and pick up all of the items that have been collected.    Please keep your unwanted items for a short while longer.   This is a great opportunity to purge your unwanted items and raise money for the band!  Click here to download the flyer for this event.

Mardi Gras Casino Night – Buy Your Tickets Now!!!

Our largest event this school year will be the annual Mardi Gras Casino Night, which will be held on January 31st, 2015.  To make this event a success, we need your help!  We are asking all families to sell enough tickets to fill an 8-seat table.  We want to raise as much money as possible this year, so that we can continue to cover costs of the Band program without increasing the fees you have to pay out of pocket.  The student that sells the most tickets to this event will receive a $200 credit toward next year’s Band Camp fees!  Last year’s event was tons of fun, and we auctioned off some great prizes.  This year is shaping up to be even better!  We are offering an early-bird discount for tickets purchased before December 1st.  Click here to download info and purchase tickets to this fun event!

We will also have Village Inn Pie gift cards and Scentsy Wickless Candles fundraisers later this fall, as we get closer to the holidays.  More details will be published when we get closer to these events.

Volunteer Spotlight

This week’s Volunteer of the Week is Kathy Keim, mom to freshman saxophonist Grace Kennedy.  Janis is one of our newer volunteers, and we are so happy and grateful that she is helping out at football games.  Thank you Janis for all that you do!

Volunteers Needed!!!

We need parent volunteers to help at the upcoming football games.  Volunteer activities include moving instruments and sound equipment on the field, chaperoning on buses at away games, and setting up the bleachers for the Band.  If you are planning to come to the game to watch your student perform, please consider helping out.  All volunteers will get in to the game for free.  Please email hidden; JavaScript is required, if you can help.


Volunteer Of The Year

IMG_0812Congratulations to Neal Deacon for being selected as the Band Fans Volunteer of the Year for the 2013-2014 school year!  Neal began his volunteering by chaperoning band camp in his percussionist son Matt’s freshman year, and he’s made a repeat appearance at band camp every year since (for a total of four). Now wrapping up his fourth year as a volunteer, Neal has chaperoned football games and competitions, volunteered each year for uniform fitting day, driven the equipment truck, served as an essential member of the HPR backdrops team, donated his home each year for the Band Fans holiday party, and donated equipment and materials to the band.  Neal, thank you so much for your support these past four years.  We will miss you!

If you haven’t used up your tax credit allowance, you can pay up to $209 of this year’s Band Camp Fees with tax credit dollars.  A tax credit form is included in the registration packet.  You can also pay with tax credit dollars via the Horizon Huskies Webstore.  More information on the Tax Credit Program can be found at this link.
