Symphonic Band

Horizon's symphonic band performs one of their quarterly concertsThe Symphonic Band is an advanced performing ensemble. This course consists of 9-12 grade students. Solo and ensemble groups may participate in district or state contest festivals. Out-of-school practices, performances and festivals are required. It may be necessary to rent instruments, purchase mouthpieces and other accessories. Students are responsible for the care and maintenance of their instrument. For reasons of ensemble balance, the director may request/require students to change instruments.

Percussion Ensemble

Horizon's percussion ensemble performsPercussion ensemble is symphonic band utilizing percussion instruments only. The students learn music for percussion, which they perform solo, in percussion ensemble, and with the symphonic band at quarterly concerts.

How to Dress for Performances

In addition to uniforms loaned to you by the school, you will need the following items for concerts:

Women are required to wear black stockings and black dress shoes (flats or low heels). No spiked heels.

Men are required to wear black shoes, black socks, and a white pleated-front wing collar tuxedo shirt.

  • Tuxedo shirts can be purchased at Michaels craft store or a tuxedo shop.
  • HPR students may wear marching shoes as long as they are clean and polished.

Cleaning Your Gown or Tuxedo

Gowns - Wash your gown in cold water and line dry.
Tuxedos - Tuxedos will be dry cleaned at the end of the year. DO NOT WASH YOUR TUXEDO.
